We're given a .wav file, with beeps that sound like dial tones. Spoiler alert: they are dial tones. There are 6 groups of 6 beeps each that, when deciphered, give us the grid:

The title (through plectra) hints to something string instrument related. Indeed if you look at the grid in terms of tab notation for guitars, you see it consists of the chords G, E, B, E, G, B. This refers to the book 'Gödel, Escher, Bach: An Eternal Golden Braid' by Douglas Hofstadter. Hofstadter is the answer.
